Things to do

Teignmouth, situated on south Devon coast, was one of the earliest towns in the area to develop as a resort following the railway line being extended to Teignmouth in 1850.

The award-winning sandy beach, together with the promenade, stretches the length of the town. The Victorian pier is very popular, as is the nearby public area called ‘The Den’ next to the promenade. Here are lawns, flowerbeds, children’s play areas, tennis courts, mini golf, skating park and the bowling green. Many of the town’s holiday activities also take place in The Den. In addition there are cliff walks, a theatre, a new museum, an outdoor swimming pool, a leisure centre and a diving centre. Teignmouth Golf Club is open to visitors who are already members of a golf club and have a handicap certificate.

The town has attractive pedestrianised areas with shops and restaurants; there are also interesting old backstreets to explore, all accessible on foot. The busy working port at the mouth of the estuary, from where china clay is exported all over the world, is a lively area with fishing boats, boats for hire and waterside inns.
