This part of South Devon has sandy beaches and impressive cliffs; the award winning beach in Teignmouth, which is safe and clean for children, is within easy walking distance of The Sail Loft. There is also a pier with old-fashioned amusements, as well as more modern ones, popular with adults and children alike. Other attractions include sailing, angling, water-skiing, diving and swimming; a lido, situated close to the sea, is available during the summer for those who prefer to swim in a pool rather than the sea. Several golf clubs in the area welcome visitors, including Teignmouth Golf Club which is only a mile from The Sail Loft.

National Trust land nearby provides the opportunity to take pleasant walks with breathtaking views towards the sea and the beautiful rolling Devon countryside or you can walk along the South Devon coastal path. For people interested in wildlife, parts of the Teign Estuary are designated as Local Nature Reserves and Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

Lyme Bay, an area of major geological interest, is in nearby Dorset and down the coast in the opposite direction, is Torbay. From Teignmouth it is approximately a 30-minute drive to Exeter or the beautiful Dartmoor National Park and Plymouth is about an hour's drive away. Teignmouth claims record-breaking hours of sunshine and the geographical position ensures reasonable weather most of the year.
